GitHub streak tracker
A GitHub streak tracker that makes the streak worth keeping.
Vigilante is a free GitHub streak tracker built as a game. You pick one repository and a daily commit target; every day GitHub's push notification confirms the work, and a supply crate lands in a town you rebuild. Your streak becomes something you can see grow.

Why most coding streaks break
A contribution graph counts any activity, so the number turns into the goal and the project slips. One missed day resets everything, which makes the next day harder, not easier. And most streak tools only show a number: nothing happens when you keep it, and nothing helps you come back when you lose it.
How Vigilante tracks your streak
- One repository and one daily commit target, so the streak measures the project you actually care about.
- Every day is verified from GitHub's push notification, not ticked off by hand.
- Each verified day drops a supply crate: Materials and XP to rebuild your settlement. Streaks raise the reward: ×1.2 from 3 days, ×1.5 from 7.
- A day clock shows how much time is left to verify today, in your own time zone.
- A free share card on every verified day: your town, your day count and today's commits.
What counts as real work
Code and documentation both count, because a README or a setup guide can be a whole day's useful work. Merge commits, empty commits and commits that only touch lock files or config files don't. If a push doesn't count, the game says why instead of failing silently.
Missing a day doesn't wipe you out
Your town pauses instead of resetting. You have until the end of the next day to mend the miss with Revival Fluid or a free 5-day repair run, and everything you built stays. A mended day keeps you going but is never counted as a verified day.
Your code stays yours
Vigilante verifies the push, never the code. It doesn't clone your repository or request diffs; it reads commit IDs, timestamps and changed file names from GitHub's push notification. You can delete your account any time from Settings.
How it compares with other ways to track a streak
General categories, not specific products.
| Approach | What it verifies | Daily structure | When you miss a day |
|---|---|---|---|
| README streak badge | Shows your public contribution count | No target or reminder | Streak resets |
| Habit-tracker app | You tick the day yourself | Reminders | Streak resets |
| Contribution graph | Any GitHub activity, any repo | None | A grey square |
| Vigilante | GitHub push data on the repo you chose | Your own daily commit target, a day clock and a reminder at the hour you pick | Town pauses; mend within a day |
Questions
Does it replace my GitHub contribution graph?
No. Your graph stays as it is. Vigilante tracks one goal on one repository with your own daily target, and turns each verified day into progress in the game.
Which commits count?
Code and documentation both count, including a docs-only commit such as a README or setup guide. Merge commits, empty commits, and commits that only change lock files or setup/config files (such as .gitignore or .editorconfig) don't. If a push doesn't count, the game tells you why.
Can I track more than one repository?
Each goal tracks one repository. With Pro, a goal can count a second repository too.
What happens if I miss a day?
The day is marked missed and your town pauses, but nothing you built is taken away. Until the end of the next day you can use 1 Revival Fluid or start a free 5-day repair run. A mended day keeps your progress going but never counts as a verified day.
Does Vigilante read my code?
No. Vigilante never clones your repository or requests code or diffs. It uses GitHub's push notification: commit IDs, timestamps and changed file names, checked to skip merges, empty commits and lock- or config-only changes. Commit messages are saved only if you turn on sharing them.
Is it free?
Yes. Verified days, supply crates, building your town, survivors, daily check-ins, missions and the daily share card are free. Pro is optional: faster building, 2 Revival Fluid a month, advanced Insights, a second repository per goal and premium share designs.
