What is Vigilante?
Vigilante is a free browser game for developers that turns real, GitHub-verified daily work into progress. You pick one repository and a daily commit target; each day GitHub's push notification verifies the work and a supply crate lands in a post-apocalyptic town you rebuild. It works as a GitHub streak tracker and a coding habit tracker, and it's made by OCIX.
Does Vigilante read my source code?
No. Vigilante only uses GitHub's push alert: commit IDs, timestamps and counts. Changed file names are checked in memory to filter lock/config-only changes and are never stored. It never clones your repository or requests code or diffs. GitHub labels the app permission 'read contents' because push alerts need it. Commit messages are saved only if you turn on sharing them.
What counts as a meaningful commit?
Code and documentation both count toward your daily target in your chosen repository, including documentation-only commits such as a README or setup guide. Merge commits, empty commits, and changes limited to lock files or setup/config files (such as .gitignore or .editorconfig) don't count.
What happens if I miss a day?
Your town pauses and the Salvage Yard stops producing, but nothing you built is lost. Revival Fluid mends a missed day: earn one by finishing a 7-day check-in (up to one a month), buy a pack, or get 2 a month with Pro. A mended day never counts as a verified day.
Is Vigilante free?
Yes. Verified days, supply crates, building, survivors, daily check-ins, missions and the daily share card are free. Pro is optional, and the app shows the exact price before checkout.
What does Pro add?
Twice the build speed, 2 Revival Fluid every month, advanced Insights, a second repository per goal and premium share designs. Verified GitHub work still sets the pace for everyone.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, any time from Settings. Your account closes immediately and personal and game data are erased after 3 days. Sign in before the scheduled date to cancel. We keep anonymous totals with identifying feedback redacted, plus payment records the law requires; the GitHub App is uninstalled where possible.
